British Gas Customers Face Midnight Deadline for Exclusive Energy Deal
British Gas has introduced a fixed tariff that undercuts the current energy price cap and represents the most competitive offer among major suppliers. However, this exclusive opportunity will disappear at midnight on Friday, April 17, leaving customers with limited time to secure the deal.
Significant Savings Compared to Current and Future Rates
A typical household paying by direct debit would spend approximately £1,610 annually with this tariff, which is £31 below April's official price cap of £1,641. More importantly, the deal offers even greater long-term savings, coming in over £250 below independent predictions for the July price cap.
Energy analyst Cornwall Insight forecasts the July cap will reach £1,861, making the British Gas Fixed Exclusive Jul27 v1 tariff particularly valuable for budget-conscious consumers. The offer is exclusively available through Compare the Market and will close at 23:59 on April 17.
Expert Advice on Energy Tariff Selection
Tom Lyon, an energy expert at Compare the Market, emphasized the importance of thorough comparison when selecting energy deals. "When evaluating options, consumers should look beyond the headline price and examine the complete tariff details," Lyon advised.
"This includes standing charges, contract length, and whether the plan aligns with your specific meter type and consumption patterns. Customers currently on standard variable tariffs can typically switch without facing penalties from their existing supplier."
Protection Against Price Volatility
Lyon further explained the advantages of fixed tariffs: "Moving to a fixed-rate plan provides protection from market price fluctuations by locking in unit rates for the contract duration. This offers greater certainty for monthly budgeting and helps households manage their energy costs more effectively."
New contracts include a 14-day cooling-off period, allowing customers to cancel without charge if they reconsider their decision after signing up.
