Halifax Issues Credit Card Refund Update for Customers
Halifax Issues Credit Card Refund Update to Customers

Halifax has issued a crucial update for customers regarding credit card refunds, following a query on social media. The bank, which has branches in Birmingham, clarified how credit balances are managed and how customers can request refunds.

How Credit Card Refunds Work

Halifax explained: "If your credit card has a credit balance, it'll first reduce what you owe. Any remaining credit can be refunded to your current account." Customers can initiate refunds through the Halifax app or online banking, or find more details on the Halifax website.

Section 75 Protection

Under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, Halifax may be equally liable with retailers if items are faulty, don't arrive, or aren't as described. Financial expert Martin Lewis uses the acronym 'SAD FART' to remember when disputes are possible: products that aren't satisfactory, as described, faulty, or don't last a reasonable time.

Eligibility for a Halifax Credit Card

To apply for a Halifax credit card, you must be a UK resident aged 18 or over with a regular annual income, free of County Court Judgements (CCJs), Individual Voluntary Agreements (IVAs), or bankruptcies, not unemployed or a student, and not have been declined for a Halifax credit card within the last 30 days.

During eligibility checks, you'll need addresses for the last three years, bank details, annual income, spending commitments, and other information. The interest rate and credit limit offered depend on factors like spending history, income, spending commitments, and past credit management.
