The Land Rover Discovery has been identified as the most unreliable used car in the United Kingdom, according to the 2026 Reliability Index published by Warrantywise. This vehicle, which can cost owners up to £25,000 in repairs, tops a list dominated by premium brands.
Land Rover Dominates Unreliability Rankings
The British manufacturer occupies five positions in the top ten, including the top spot. The Discovery's average repair cost exceeds £2,000, with the most expensive single repair reaching over £25,000. Other Land Rover models in the list include the Range Rover Velar (5th), Range Rover Sport (6th), Land Rover Discovery Sport (8th), and Land Rover Defender 110 (10th).
Jaguar Land Rover Responds
A spokesperson for Jaguar Land Rover told Motor Trade News: "Quality across the entire client ownership experience is a priority for JLR. Our own industry data tells us that vehicle quality is its strongest to date, and we continue to drive further improvements."
BMW and Mercedes in Second and Third
The BMW 7 Series ranks second, with the highest average repair cost of £2,467.37. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class takes third place, followed by the Audi A7 in fourth. Other BMW models in the top ten include the X5 (7th) and X7 (9th).

Antony Diggins, managing director of Warrantywise, commented: "As the UK car parc continues to age, more vehicles – particularly SUVs and premium models – are moving into a stage of ownership where repair requests become more likely. That doesn’t make them the wrong used cars to retail, but it does mean they need to be approached differently."
