Nationwide Building Society has begun distributing its £100 Fairer Share Payment to eligible members, with approximately 4.4 million people set to receive the bonus. The payments will be credited to accounts between June 10 and June 30, 2026.
How to Check if You Received the Payment
Eligible members do not need to apply or provide any details, as the payment is issued automatically. To confirm receipt, look for the code Nationwide Fairer Share Payment on your bank statement, accompanied by a £100 credit.
Dame Debbie Crosbie, Nationwide’s Chief Executive, stated: "More people than ever are choosing Nationwide. Our growth in mortgages, retail deposits, and personal current accounts is leading the market, which means we can again make a Fairer Share payment to eligible members, and offer a new Member Exclusive Bond to all members."
Fourth Consecutive Year of Payments
Stephen Noakes, Nationwide’s Retail Director, commented: "We’ve made strong progress with this year’s Fairer Share payment, surpassing four million payments on the first day. We’re pleased to be able to reward eligible members with £100 for the fourth consecutive year, reflecting Nationwide’s strong financial position."
HMRC treats the payment as savings income, similar to interest from a bank or building society account. For most people, no extra tax is due because basic-rate taxpayers can earn up to £1,000 in savings interest tax-free through the Personal Savings Allowance. However, Alice Haine, Personal Finance Analyst at Bestinvest by Evelyn Partners, warns that the allowance "can be breached more quickly than many expect."
Nationwide, which has branches in Birmingham, has paid the Fairer Share Payment since 2023. The payment depends on the society’s financial strength and requires Board approval. This year’s payout was announced on May 21 alongside full-year financial results, which showed £1.5 billion delivered to members in the year ending March 31, 2026.
