Love Island Robyn's Mum: Why She Almost Quit

Love Island star Robyn Langton's mother Stacey has revealed the relatable reason why her daughter nearly declined her spot on the popular ITV show. Robyn, a 21-year-old quantity surveyor and part-time DJ from Liverpool, initially had doubts after applying and almost turned down the opportunity of a lifetime.

Second Thoughts Before the Villa

Stacey explained that Robyn was unsure about participating. "She wasn't quite sure whether she wanted to or not. But I just said to her, 'What have you got to lose?'" After sending in her application, Robyn received a call from producers while in the car with her mother, officially offering her a place on series 13. That's when worries set in.

"She started to have second thoughts because she had a little think about people's perceptions of when you've been on a reality TV show and what people think of you," Stacey said. However, after a couple of hours of reflection and support from her close family and friends, Robyn realized she didn't care about strangers' opinions. "She was all in then," her mother added.

Family Support and Pride

Robyn has since made her family proud by standing up for her beliefs and being a cheerleader for the other girls. Stacey, a mother of three, admitted she misses speaking to her daughter daily, especially during tough moments. "We're so close. I speak to Robyn multiple times a day and to know that you're not going to have contact with your daughter for possibly up to 10 weeks was really difficult for me," she shared.

Stacey also revealed personal struggles: "She has had a rough couple of years. I've just got over breast cancer. I had my last preventative surgery at the end of January this year. I'm getting emotional now as that was a really hard process." Despite the challenges, she beams with pride over Robyn's authentic portrayal on the show. "I'm super proud of her. I've had so many messages from parents and from young girls saying how she's like a breath of fresh air because she hasn't got a false tan on, there's no full face of make-up, even when she knows it's getting screened. Our Robyn's just not that bothered."

Message to Robyn

If Stacey could send a message to Robyn inside the villa, she would offer encouragement: "Just keep being yourself. Everyone's loving the way you're coming across and we are super proud of her but she knows that anyway."
