The festive frenzy of Christmas Day has passed, leaving that peculiar lull known as ‘Twixmas’. It’s the perfect time to escape the house, embrace the fresh air, and discover some magical family experiences before the New Year's countdown begins. The Birmingham region is brimming with events, from spectacular stage shows and outdoor adventures to enchanting light trails.

Unmissable Stage Shows & Festive Theatre

For laughter and spectacle, Birmingham's theatres are in full swing. Christopher Biggins, Gok Wan, Matt Slack, and Faye Tozer lead the cast in the Robin Hood pantomime at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Running on selected dates from December 20, 2025, to February 1, 2026, it promises comedy, audience participation, and lavish sets.

Over at Birmingham REP in Centenary Square, a festive mystery awaits. Sherlock Holmes and the 12 Days of Christmas is a musical murder mystery featuring songs by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It continues on selected dates until January 18.

In Stratford-upon-Avon, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre presents a magical new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG. Tom Wells’ production brings the giant’s world to life on selected dates through December and January.

Enchanting Outdoor Adventures & Light Trails

Wrap up warm for some wonderful winter walks and illuminated experiences. The Snowman™ Sculpture Trail has returned, this time at Baddesley Clinton in Solihull. Based on Raymond Briggs’ classic, the colourful trail is free for National Trust members and runs until January 11.

For a bracing canal-side walk, tackle the 21 Hatton Locks on the Grand Union Canal. Known as the ‘Stairway to Heaven’, this two-mile walk in Warwickshire countryside features a 45-metre elevation change.

No festive season is complete without ice skating. Ice Skate Birmingham in Centenary Square is open daily (except Christmas Day) until January 4, complete with an Ice Lounge and a neighbouring Big Wheel.

Warwick Castle also hosts a Christmas Ice Rink in front of Guy's Tower until January 4, alongside a spectacular trail of 500,000 lights. For year-round skating with a festive twist, head to the Snowdome in Tamworth, decorated and playing festive tunes until January 3.

Thrill-seekers should visit Winter Funland at the Birmingham NEC, the UK's biggest indoor Christmas funfair. It offers unlimited rides, a giant ice rink, a circus, and motorbike shows on selected dates until January 3.

Similarly, Winter Glow at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern boasts a major light trail and a huge covered ice rink, plus a big wheel and UV mini golf. It runs until New Year's Eve.

For a full day out, Alton Towers continues its festivities in Tower Street and CBeebies Land until January 4, with live shows including Hey Duggee.

National Trust Gems & Forest Walks

Beyond Baddesley Clinton, the National Trust’s Packwood House in Solihull is adorned for festive tours until January 4. For expansive outdoor exploration, the Heart of England Forest offers eight different walks across 8,000 acres of Warwickshire, including the 3.5-mile Founder’s Walk.
