Bristol Balloon Fiesta Secures Future with 2026 Dates & Council Deal
Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2026 dates confirmed

The beloved Bristol International Balloon Fiesta has confirmed its return for 2026, with its future secured by a landmark new partnership with the local authority.

A New Era of Stability

The not-for-profit event, which has been running since 1979, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bristol City Council. This agreement grants the fiesta use of the Ashton Court Estate until at least 2030, providing much-needed long-term stability.

The deal was formally signed by fiesta founder and director Don Cameron and the leader of Bristol City Council, Councillor Tony Dyer. Organisers stated this new partnership has helped the event secure its financial footing after recent challenges.

Community and Business Backing

Beyond council support, the fiesta has received significant backing from the regional business community. Key supporters include headline sponsor Albert Goodman, alongside long-term partners Thatchers, Butcombe, GWR, and various delivery partners.

Founder Don Cameron reflected on the event's journey, noting its humble beginnings as a simple balloon meet in the 1970s. He described seeing it woven into the fabric of our city as humbling beyond words, acknowledging the social and economic responsibility to protect it.

Looking Ahead to 2026 and Beyond

A recent impact report revealed the fiesta made a small in-year profit for 2025. This surplus will be used to reduce aged debt, supporting the event's five-year strategy for financial recovery and innovation.

Cllr Tony Dyer emphasised the fiesta's profound impact, calling it a showcase for our city's heritage of ingenuity, enterprise, and curiosity. He highlighted its value not just to local tourism, but as an inspiration to the children and families who attend.

The 2026 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will be a free, three-day event held at Ashton Court Estate from 7th to 9th August.
