British Couple Drown at Australian Beach While on Holiday Visiting Family
A British married couple has tragically died after drowning while on holiday abroad in Australia. The pair were visiting family when disaster struck during a swim at a popular beach.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The 66-year-old man and 64-year-old woman were swimming at Shellharbour Beach at Shell Cove on New South Wales's south coast on Wednesday, March 11. Their dream holiday quickly turned into a nightmare as they struggled in the water.
Emergency services were called to the beach, located two hours south of Sydney, shortly after 11am local time. Reports indicated that two swimmers had been seen in distress in the water.
Rescue Efforts and CPR Attempts
Members of the public pulled the couple to shore, where two off-duty female nurses immediately performed CPR until paramedics arrived. The paramedics continued resuscitation efforts upon arrival.
Despite these urgent attempts, the man and woman could not be revived and were pronounced dead at the scene. Family members of the couple were present during the incident.

New South Wales Police commended the work of the two off-duty nurses and a young male who assisted in the rescue. A spokesperson for the force expressed condolences, stating, "This is a tragic incident and our hearts go out to the family."
