A West Midlands dad has become an online sensation after his family cheered him on from a balcony as he joined dozens of tourists fighting for sun loungers at a Spanish resort. The chaotic scene, which unfolded at the Golden Donaire Beach Hotel, has amused viewers worldwide.
The morning sunbed rush
Nicole Mason-Price, 35, admitted she and her four-year-old daughter Nevada cheered on husband Shawn, 34, as he braved the early morning queue. The family, from the West Midlands, were staying at the resort when they witnessed the intense competition for poolside loungers. Despite the pool not officially opening until 9am, eager holidaymakers were already queuing from around 7.45am.
Nicole said: "People push, swear and shout and claim more sunbeds than they should, which causes arguments." Having seen the drama earlier in their holiday, the family usually avoided it by heading to the beach. But on May 16, their daughter was desperate to use the pool, leaving Shawn no choice but to join the queue.
Cheering from above
As tensions rose around the pool area, Nicole and Nevada watched from their balcony and started cheering him on like he was taking part in a sporting event. The noise caught the attention of another guest, who joined in the cheering. "My husband was super embarrassed as we were all cheering," Nicole laughed.
According to Nicole, the atmosphere became increasingly heated as tourists scrambled to reserve multiple beds with towels before disappearing for breakfast. Although the hotel has rules prohibiting leaving sunbeds unoccupied for more than 15 minutes, she claims many ignore them. "People leave them for hours whilst they're having breakfast," she said. In some cases, frustrated holidaymakers reportedly throw towels into the pool.
The clips quickly amused viewers online, with many saying the daily fight for loungers has become an unavoidable part of package holidays abroad.
