Glynn Purnell's Warwickshire Pub The Mount Announces Closure

A Warwickshire pub operated by renowned Birmingham chef Glynn Purnell is set to close its doors permanently. The Mount by Glynn Purnell in Henley in Arden will shut after four years of operation on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Reasons Behind the Closure

The pub's management cited rising running costs, increasing food prices, and soaring energy bills as key factors that have rendered the business unsustainable. In a statement, they explained that these financial pressures have made it impossible to continue operations despite their best efforts.

Glynn Purnell himself expressed his regret about the decision, stating: "After four wonderful years, the very tough decision has been made to close The Mount. The hospitality landscape has become increasingly challenging, and despite everyone's hard work, it's simply not sustainable to continue."

Commitment to Customers and Staff

The owners have made specific commitments to ensure a responsible closure process:

  • Voucher holders can redeem their vouchers by contacting the pub directly before March 15
  • All staff members will be "taken care of" during the transition
  • Suppliers will be paid in full before the closure

This approach comes after previous criticism when Purnell's Michelin Star restaurant closed in October 2024 with nearly £40,000 in unspent vouchers.

Background and Other Ventures

The Mount was opened in March 2022 by Luke and Tania Fryer, with Glynn Purnell operating the kitchen. Despite the closure of this establishment, Purnell continues to maintain several other culinary ventures:

  1. Trillium - A new restaurant in Birmingham's city center near Snow Hill, opened in December 2025
  2. Plates by Purnell's - Located in Birmingham city center
  3. The Wood Norton - Situated in Evesham

The owners added: "We are so proud of what The Mount has achieved since opening in March 2022 and of the team who have worked tirelessly to make it such a welcoming and well-regarded pub."

Customers with bookings or enquiries are encouraged to contact The Mount directly at 01564 792135 or through their website before the March 15 closure date.
