Alfred Works Food Hall in Digbeth Announces Major Expansion with New Outdoor Venue

Just a few months after its grand opening in February, the giant Alfred Works food hall in Birmingham's vibrant Digbeth district is already preparing for a significant expansion. A dynamic new outdoor social space and sports bar, named Alfresco, is scheduled to open in early May, adding to the venue's appeal as a community hub.

Alfresco: A Hub for Entertainment and Socialising

At the heart of this expansion is an indoor sports bar designed specifically for watching live sports and socialising. This bar will feature large-format screens and have a capacity of up to 300 guests, making it an ideal spot for game days and gatherings. To celebrate the launch, a series of drop-in events and workshops will be held, inviting the public to experience the new offerings firsthand.

Diverse Indoor-Outdoor Experience

Beyond the sports bar, Alfresco will offer a varied entertainment experience that blends indoor and outdoor elements. Visitors can enjoy table tennis and an outdoor cinema, creating a lively atmosphere for all ages. A permanent fried chicken kitchen, housed in a container unit, will operate year-round, providing consistent food and drink options for patrons.

Expansive Outdoor Area with Seasonal Flavors

Extending from the sports bar is a large outdoor area tailored for food, music, and socialising. This space will include three outdoor kitchen units focusing on BBQ-style dining, communal seating areas, a DJ booth for events and live sets, and flexible activity spaces. A large canopy structure along the edges will provide shelter from rain and shade from the sun, ensuring the area remains accessible throughout the year, although the outdoor kitchens and event programming will be seasonal.

Family-Friendly Features and Community Impact

Alfresco will also feature a dedicated children's play area at the far end of the site, complete with a ship-themed climbing area that includes interactive and sensory elements. A spokesman for Alfred Works highlighted that this expansion builds on what people already love about the venue: great food, independent kitchens, and a relaxed, social atmosphere. With Alfresco, there is now even more to enjoy, from live sport and street food to outdoor events and family-friendly spaces, making Alfred Works a go-to destination in Birmingham.
