Sixes Cricket Bars Collapse Into Administration Days Before Christmas
Sixes Cricket Bar Chain Enters Administration

In a significant blow to the UK's leisure sector, the Sixes cricket-themed bar chain has fallen into administration just days before Christmas, placing its 16 venues across England in jeopardy.

Chain Backed by Cricket Star Enters Administration

The company, which operates venues under the backing of England cricket captain Ben Stokes, confirmed the move on Wednesday, citing "challenging" recent trading conditions. Administrators from FRP Advisory were formally appointed to oversee the process and are now actively seeking a buyer for the business.

Sixes had expanded rapidly in recent years, riding the wave of the "competitive socialising" boom. It positioned itself against established brands like Flight Club and Junkyard Golf, offering customers the chance to play cricket-based games in a bar setting.

Strong Sites Struggle Amidst Fierce Competition

In a statement, the group acknowledged that while it has a core of strongly performing sites, others have struggled significantly. This downturn is attributed to a combination of fierce competition within the social entertainment market and the broader impact of reduced consumer spending.

Tony Wright, joint administrator and partner at FRP Advisory, commented on the situation. "Sixes has built a strong brand in the social entertainment space with its unique venues proving very popular with customers," he said.

"While some locations have struggled in an increasingly competitive market, the business has significant potential, and we’re encouraged by the early interest we’ve received from parties interested in acquiring the brand and its strongest-performing sites."

Future Uncertain for 16 Venues Nationwide

Wright emphasised that the immediate priority is to ensure a smooth experience for customers during the crucial Christmas period. "Our priority is to secure the best outcome for the business and its stakeholders while ensuring customers can continue to enjoy their bookings through the Christmas period and beyond," he added.

The administrators expressed confidence that the brand could have a future, stating: "We’re confident that with the right investment and focus, Sixes can build on its core strengths."

The collapse leaves the future of its 16 sites uncertain. The full list of Sixes locations across England is:
