The owners of a beloved Wolverhampton pub have announced its closure after 14 years, citing 'increasing pressure' within the hospitality industry. The Greyhound in Lower Penn, near Wolverhampton, will shut its doors following what owners described as a 'difficult' period.
Emotional Announcement on Social Media
Owners Frankie and Jordan shared a heartfelt statement with patrons on Facebook on Wednesday, May 13. They expressed that the decision was not an easy one and expressed hope that the pub could one day be 'great again.'
The post read: 'After 14 unforgettable years, the time has come for us to say goodbye to The Greyhound Lower Penn. This has not been an easy decision, but with the increasing pressures facing hospitality, it has become more and more difficult to continue running the pub.'
Gratitude to Supporters
The owners extended their thanks to customers, friends, family, staff, suppliers, and supporters who had walked through their doors over the years. They stated, 'The memories made here will stay with us forever, and we are so grateful for all the love and support you’ve shown us throughout this journey.'
Frankie and Jordan added, 'The Greyhound has been such a huge part of our lives, and we are incredibly proud of everything it has been over the last 14 years. For now, it’s goodbye… but we truly hope that one day The Greyhound can be great again. Thank you for everything. Love always, Frankie & Jordan.'
Although comments were turned off on the post, it had garnered over 340 likes at the time of writing.
Industry Challenges
The closure reflects broader challenges facing the hospitality sector, including rising costs and changing consumer habits. The Greyhound's departure marks the end of an era for the local community, who have cherished the pub as a gathering place for nearly a decade and a half.
