Toyota Aygo X Named Most Reliable Car in UK, Beating Ford and VW
Toyota Aygo X Tops UK Reliability Survey

The Toyota Aygo X has been named the most reliable car in the United Kingdom, according to the latest Auto Express Driver Power Survey. The survey, which polls readers on vehicle dependability, placed the Mk 3 Toyota Aygo X city car at the top with a reliability score of 94.09 per cent.

Survey Highlights Buyer Priorities

Auto Express researchers found that reliability was the second most important factor for car buyers, after price. The Aygo X, first launched in 2022, impressed owners with its ride quality, braking performance, and fuel economy.

An Auto Express spokesperson said: “The Toyota Aygo X takes top honours this year as the most reliable car in the UK… The city car sector is fiercely competitive, but the Toyota Aygo X clearly nails its brief and has been a hit with its owners.”

Evolution of the Aygo X

The publication noted that while the Aygo X traces its lineage back more than 20 years, the current model is a far cry from the original budget-minded city car. The arrival of hybrid drive has pushed prices up, but the Aygo X is now more upmarket than most other small city cars. It is also surprisingly fun to drive, with the latest petrol-electric powertrain giving it an entertaining character well suited to urban driving.

Auto Express added: “If you look at it more as a two-seat runabout with a couple of chairs in the back for occasional use, it could be the perfect posh city car.”

Top Three Most Reliable Cars

Coming in second behind the Aygo X was the Mazda CX-30, with a reliability score of 93.37 per cent. The journalists noted that the Mazda scored well on other running costs like VED road tax and insurance. In third place was the Mk1 Tesla Model 3.

The survey results underscore the importance of reliability in the competitive UK car market, with Toyota continuing to dominate in this category.
