Aldi has confirmed a significant store upgrade plan involving 25 supermarkets across the UK. The discounter is set to revamp and overhaul these locations, introducing more shopping space and sustainable features such as energy-efficient fridge doors.
Investment in Store Upgrades
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, stated: "We're continuing to invest in our stores to ensure our customers have the best possible shopping experience at Aldi. These upgrades will help us create even more convenient and efficient stores for both customers and colleagues while also supporting our sustainability ambitions."
The announcement follows Aldi's first delivery from its new Distribution Centre at Bardon in Leicestershire, marking the start of operations at the UK's largest supermarket warehouse. The retailer has invested over £500 million in the site, which will employ around 1,000 people and is part of Aldi's £1.6 billion investment in Britain during 2026 and 2027.
Once fully operational, Bardon will serve nearly 350 stores across the UK and have the capacity to handle nearly seven million pallets of stock annually. It will also function as a National Replenishment Hub, supporting Aldi's existing warehouse network.

CEO Comments on Investment
Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: "The state-of-the-art technology in Bardon will significantly increase the efficiency of our warehouse network, meaning we can continue to deliver the best possible prices for our customers, every single day. Our ambition is to make quality groceries affordable and accessible to all, and that can only happen when everybody in Britain has an Aldi store on their doorstep.
