Two of the UK's most popular discount supermarkets, Aldi and Lidl, are implementing a temporary change to their famous middle aisle offerings this week. The adjustment is a direct result of the New Year's Day bank holiday falling on a Thursday.
Revised Middle Aisle Schedules for January
Both retailers have confirmed a one-day postponement for their first product launches of 2026. Aldi's renowned Specialbuys, which typically arrive in stores every Thursday and Sunday, will see their Thursday release moved to Friday, January 2. This means bargain hunters can access the new range from the start of the weekend.
The subsequent Sunday release remains unaffected and is scheduled for January 4. Lidl is following a similar pattern for its 'Middle of Lidl' promotions, aligning its revised dates with Aldi's, also shifting to January 2 and January 4.
Aldi reminded customers of the popular nature of these items, stating: "We send Specialbuys to our stores around the country every Sunday and Thursday. But there aren't many and once they're gone, they're gone!"
Aldi's Budget School Uniform Returns
Coinciding with the adjusted schedule is the highly anticipated return of Aldi's Back to School range. Following its successful launch last January, the affordable bundle is back for a second year, landing in all stores nationwide on Sunday, January 4.
The offer is designed to help families refresh school wardrobes after the Christmas period without breaking the bank. The essential pack, costing just £3.50, includes two polo shirts and one pair of trousers. The items are available in various colours and sizes catering to children aged 4 to 12 years.
Aldi has confirmed it is continuing its price freeze on school uniforms, offering what it calls "unbeatable value and quality." As with all Specialbuys, shoppers are advised to act quickly as stock is strictly limited.
How to Check Product Availability
For those planning their shopping trip, Lidl has provided guidance for checking stock. A spokesperson said: "You can check the availability of our 'Middle of Lidl' products on our main website, lidl.co.uk. Once you've found the product you're looking for, the stock information will be located under the price."
This temporary logistical change is a standard annual adjustment for the supermarkets, ensuring staff receive the bank holiday while keeping the popular middle aisle treasure hunts on track for the new year.
