Budget supermarket giant Aldi has revealed ambitious proposals to build a brand new, multi-million-pound store on the eastern outskirts of the historic Wiltshire market town of Devizes.
Multi-Million Pound Investment and Job Creation
The German retailer is planning a significant £10 million investment in the local area, with the development expected to generate approximately 40 new jobs for the community. Additional employment opportunities are anticipated from a drive-through coffee shop that forms a key part of the submitted plans.
The proposed site is located on land south of the A361 London Road, which is currently utilised as a motorcycle training facility. Access to the new supermarket is likely to be from Horton Road, situated just past the site of a former petrol station and car wash.
Eco-Friendly Design and Public Consultation
Aldi has stated that the store will be constructed to its latest environmentally sustainable specification. The design will incorporate air source heat pumps, supplemented by a refrigeration heat recovery system, alongside solar panels and LED lighting throughout.
The plans also include provisions for 97 free customer car parking spaces, complete with electric vehicle charging points. Recognising the site's location nearly two miles from Devizes town centre, the company says it is exploring ways to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists.
The eastern section of this brownfield site is already allocated for employment use within both the Wiltshire Council local plan and the Devizes community area strategy.
Next Steps and How to Have Your Say
The proposals are currently at a very early stage. A formal public consultation exercise, launched by PRZM Real Estate and Aldi on Monday, January 5, 2026, is now underway. This consultation period will remain open until Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Following the conclusion of this public feedback phase, the developer and retailer intend to submit a full planning application to Wiltshire Council for official consideration. This gives local residents a direct opportunity to shape the future of this major retail development on the edge of their town.
