A new hot chocolate product from supermarket giant Asda has ignited a passionate debate among UK shoppers, sharply dividing opinions on its arrival.
The Social Media Storm
The controversy began when an eagle-eyed customer spotted Asda's White Chocolate and Pistachio Flavour hot chocolate on shelves and shared an image to the popular Facebook group, Newfoodsuk. The post, made on January 6, 2026, quickly attracted hundreds of responses, with customers split into clear camps of admiration and disdain.
Promising a "rich and velvety drink" with just the addition of hot milk, the powder prompted immediate reactions. Some social media users were instantly captivated. "Awhh im absolutely here for this! Anything pistachio flavour is my life," one enthusiast declared. Another simply stated, "That looks good," while comments like "NEED" and "Omg" highlighted the excitement.
Not Everyone is Convinced
However, the launch was met with equal parts scepticism and outright criticism. One wary shopper commented, "Not sure on that one lol," indicating uncertainty. A more critical respondent focused on the labelling, noting, "Contains the F word ‘flavour’. Not the real thing then." The criticism escalated with another user tagging a friend to call it "Some weird s*** you'd have."
At the time of writing, details remain scarce, with the product not yet listed on Asda's online store, adding an air of mystery to its sudden appearance in physical shops.
Inspired by a Viral Craze
While specifics are limited, industry observers suggest the new drink is likely inspired by the Dubai Chocolate trend that swept through Britain in 2025. This craze saw consumers flock to chocolate bars loaded with pistachio and knafeh—a Middle Eastern dessert made from shredded filo pastry.
The trend is most famously linked to Sarah Hamouda, a Dubai-based mother who began experimenting in her kitchen to recreate the taste of her mother's traditional knafeh. She later collaborated with pastry chef Nouel Catis Omamalin to create the now-iconic Fix Dubai Chocolate bar.
Their creation, the "Can't Get Knafeh Of It" bar, launched in 2022 and sparked the viral sensation that appears to have now reached Asda's product development team, translating a solid chocolate bar into a warming, powdered drink.
Whether this supermarket interpretation will achieve similar viral status or fade away remains to be seen, but it has undoubtedly succeeded in getting the British public talking.
