Gloucestershire Garden Centre Enters Administration After Eight Years in Business
A British garden centre has collapsed into administration after first opening its doors in 2018. Leaf Creative, located in Huntley, Gloucestershire, filed for administration on February 27 and now has new owners. The business remains open to the public and is currently under the ownership of Blue Diamond Garden Centres.
Administration Process and New Ownership
Leaf Creative appointed Brett Lee Barton and David Meldrum, of BK Plus Limited, as joint administrators after becoming insolvent. Blue Diamond Garden Centres, one of the largest garden centre groups in the United Kingdom, has taken over the operation. Blue Diamond currently operates 52 sites across the country and employs approximately 4,700 staff members.
Business Background and Specialisation
The Leaf Creative website describes the centre as a destination for finding fabulous and unusual plant specimens that can inject structure, colour, and texture into gardens. The business prided itself on stocking specialist plants rarely found in conventional garden centres. Leaf Creative at Huntley originated from a founding nursery at Howle Hill and expanded from there, focusing on nurturing and growing innovative ideas.
The centre sourced and grew incredible plants, creating ever-changing new spaces for people to experience at their leisure. It also provided a place where customers could meet and discuss garden projects directly with designers. Leaf Creative emphasised a real sense of personality, combining gardening and landscaping expertise with aspirational gardening design.
Current Status and Future Outlook
Despite the administration, the garden centre continues to operate under the new ownership of Blue Diamond Garden Centres. This transition aims to maintain the business's presence in the community while leveraging the resources and scale of a larger retail group. The administration marks a significant shift for the eight-year-old enterprise, reflecting challenges in the retail and horticulture sectors.
