M&S Targets West Midlands for Major Food Store Expansion
M&S Plans New Food Stores Across West Midlands

Marks & Spencer has unveiled ambitious plans for a significant expansion of its food hall footprint across the West Midlands, targeting over a dozen specific locations for new or modernised stores.

Where M&S Wants to Grow

The retail giant has published a new target list of locations it is considering for its next wave of investment. This follows the company's previous announcement of its acquisition of 12 Homebase sites, which are slated for transformation into some of the largest standalone M&S food stores in the UK.

In the West Midlands region, M&S is reportedly focusing its search on Evesham, Bromsgrove, Kidderminster, Redditch, Aldridge, and Bridgnorth. The list also includes potential sites in Great Barr, Rugeley, Stourbridge, Wednesbury, Wolverhampton, and Wombourne.

A Faster Store Opening Strategy

This aggressive expansion is already underway, with the company confirming that 20 new or renewed M&S stores are opening between November and March. The strategy involves a shift in focus, with M&S now primarily seeking shops on the edge of town centres or in out-of-town locations outside of London.

Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, stated: “The strong performance of our new M&S food stores gives us the confidence to explore even more locations across the UK, from Elgin to Exmouth. With more than twenty stores opening or modernised before the end of the financial year, we are moving faster.”

What This Means for Shoppers

This expansion is a core part of M&S's broader strategy to revitalise its store portfolio. Freudmann added that the team is actively seeking sites for large M&S Food stores to deliver the best shopping experience, range, and availability for customers. For residents in the targeted West Midlands towns, this initiative promises greater access to the retailer's popular food offerings and could bring new investment to local retail landscapes.
