Another Poundland store is preparing to shut its doors permanently as the discount retailer continues its nationwide restructuring programme.
Final Weeks for Worthing Branch
The popular Poundland location in Worthing, West Sussex, will cease trading on December 6, joining dozens of other branches that have closed throughout the year.
A major clearance event has already begun at the store, offering customers 40% off across various product categories. Shoppers can find heavily discounted items including groceries, homeware, and health and beauty products until all remaining stock is sold.
Restructuring Reshapes Retail Chain
This latest closure forms part of Poundland's broader transformation strategy implemented after the company's acquisition by Gordon Brothers. The restructuring plan aims to reduce the retailer's portfolio from approximately 800 stores to between 650 and 700 locations across Britain.
Darren MacDonald, Poundland's UK regional manager, addressed the Worthing closure: "We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we're determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers."
"These special reductions, on top of the value we offer day-in-day-out across our wider network, will help us leave locations like Worthing with pride," MacDonald added.
Mixed Fortunes for Poundland Network
The retail chain has faced significant changes over the past year, with 57 stores closing in the twelve months leading up to November. However, there has been some positive news for Poundland shoppers elsewhere.
Six branches that previously faced closure have recently reopened, including locations in:
- Perry Barr, Birmingham
- Dundee
- Livingston
- Musselburgh
- Porthcawl
- Andover
MacDonald concluded: "When our doors close, we'll look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we'll continue to operate across the UK."
Shoppers in Worthing have until early December to take advantage of the final clearance offers before the store permanently closes.
