Poundland to close 19 stores by 2026 in major restructuring
Poundland confirms 19 store closures by 2026

Discount retailer Poundland has confirmed it will shut down 19 more stores before the start of 2026, continuing a significant restructuring programme that has already seen dozens of locations close.

The Store Closure Schedule

The first wave of closures begins this month, with the Loughborough branch on Market Street permanently shutting its doors on November 14. This will be quickly followed by the Melton Mowbray (Nottingham Street) location closing on December 4.

Additional branches facing imminent closure include the Sidcup store on November 14 and the Peckham location on November 20. While some stores won't close for several weeks, multiple locations are saying farewell to customers within days.

Closing Down Sales and Discounts

As part of the Poundland restructuring process, approximately 10 locations have already begun advertising major closing sales. Shoppers can find discounts of up to 40 percent across a wide range of products.

The sale includes everything from homeware goods and clothing to health and beauty products. A Poundland spokesperson confirmed: "Customers will be able to take advantage of significant savings as these stores prepare for closure in the days ahead. The reductions of up to 40pc will see items marked down in price until they're sold and cover all the stock in each store."

Broader Restructuring Context

This latest round of Poundland store closures follows the retailer's earlier decision to axe 30 locations. The budget chain's restructuring plan will ultimately result in 68 store closures being approved by the end of 2025.

Darren MacDonald, Poundland's UK country manager, addressed customer concerns: "We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we're determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers."

He added that despite these closures, the company looks forward to "welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we'll continue to operate right across the UK."
