Quiz Fashion Chain Could Close All Remaining Stores Without Rescue Deal
The fashion retailer Quiz, which operates a store at Merry Hill, is at risk of closing all its remaining 40 stores if it fails to secure a rescue deal by the end of April. This follows the company's entry into administration in February, with administrators from Interpath now reviewing the future of the business.
Administrators Warn of Possible Winding Up
According to sources cited by Retail Week, the options under consideration include closing additional stores, cutting jobs, or potentially winding up the entire business. Alistair McAlinden, head of Interpath in Scotland and joint administrator, highlighted that shoppers can find bargains during the Easter trading period, with discounts available on all remaining stock, including new lines.
Interpath previously stated that the directors of Quiz worked tirelessly to explore funding options but found no solvent solutions, leading to the difficult decision to place the companies into insolvency. A spokesperson for Quiz attributed the challenges to significant headwinds over the past year, such as fragile consumer confidence and increased business rates and employer costs.
Background and Previous Measures
Last year, Quiz dropped its listing on London's AIM stock market in an effort to conserve cash. The company has filed Notices of Intention to Appoint Administrators to buy time for securing a positive outcome. All remaining Quiz stores will stay open until the end of the month as the search for a buyer continues.
