An award-winning butchers has collapsed into liquidation, 121 years after the business first began operating. The family-run Scottish sausage and bacon supplier originally opened its doors in 1905 and has since maintained traditional butchery methods such as dry-curing bacon and hand-linking sausages.
Puddledub Pork and Fifeshire Bacon Company Limited in Kirkcaldy, run by the Mitchell family, has secured numerous awards over the years. However, Callum Angus Carmichael and Michelle Elliot of FRP Advisory Trading Limited have now become Joint Liquidators of the company.
Back in September 2025, the butchers ceased trading after failing to find a new owner. On Facebook, the owners wrote: “We would like to thank all of our customers and neighbours – we will miss you.”
The news comes after one of Pukka Pies’ UK suppliers collapsed into liquidation after nearly 40 years in business. G.M. Jones and Sons entered liquidation on Monday, April 20, according to a filing in the Gazette. Since 1989, they supplied Pukka Pies across the West Midlands, along with Staffordshire and Shropshire. Timothy Frank Corfield of Griffin & King has been appointed as liquidator.
Speaking to The Sun, a spokesperson for Pukka Pies said: “G.M. Jones [and Sons] are one of many suppliers of Pukka Pies. We want to reassure customers that there is no impact on the availability of Pukka products. As one of our valued wholesale partners for many years, it’s sad to see them – particularly a fellow family-run company – face challenges in today’s competitive market. We’ve worked closely with customers to help them transition smoothly to alternative suppliers so people across the UK can continue to enjoy Pukka products as usual.”
