O2 Rolls Out Free 5G+ Upgrade to Millions of Customers Nationwide
In a significant move for mobile connectivity, O2 is offering millions of its customers a free upgrade to 5G+ technology. This enhancement is available at no additional cost to all O2 Pay Monthly subscribers who have compatible devices, marking a major step forward in network accessibility.
Expanded Coverage and Enhanced Benefits
The upgrade extends to over 700 towns and cities across the United Kingdom, providing users with faster speeds and a more reliable connection. Key benefits of the 5G+ service include improved coverage in high-traffic areas, such as major venues hosting large crowds, and even better phone battery life for a smoother user experience.
Customers can expect lightning-fast speeds that are, on average, approximately 50% quicker than traditional 4G networks. This boost is designed to benefit both residents and visitors in busy urban centers, ensuring a seamless mobile experience even during peak times.
Statement from Virgin Media O2 Leadership
Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, emphasized the uniqueness of this offer in a recent statement. He highlighted that unlike other networks, O2's 5G+ service is accessible to all customers across every plan, demonstrating the company's commitment to inclusivity and network enhancement.
Hindennach noted, "Our 5G+ service is now available to millions of customers across the UK, and uniquely, it's available to everyone on O2 across all Plans – unlike other networks. This upgrade is another example of Virgin Media O2's dedication to improving our network and delivering a more reliable experience."
He also revealed that Virgin Media O2 is investing £2 million daily to prepare customers for the next wave of mobile innovation, underscoring a long-term strategy focused on technological advancement.
How to Upgrade Your Device
For iPhone users looking to take advantage of this free upgrade, the process involves converting their SIM to an eSIM. To do this, customers should navigate to Settings > Mobile Service, select the appropriate SIM or plan, and tap Convert to eSIM. If the device supports multiple SIMs, it is important to choose the correct one for conversion.
After tapping Convert to eSIM again, users simply need to follow the on-screen instructions. The iPhone will then activate the new eSIM, a process that typically takes a few minutes and may involve a brief service interruption. Once completed, an on-screen confirmation will indicate that the eSIM has been successfully set up and service is fully restored.
This initiative reflects O2's ongoing efforts to enhance mobile connectivity across the UK, providing customers with cutting-edge technology without extra charges. As the rollout continues, millions are set to benefit from improved network performance in their daily lives.
