Sky has announced it is shutting down its interactive Sky Live camera service and will issue refunds of up to £290 to affected customers. The service, which allowed users to play motion-controlled games and enjoy shared viewing experiences, will cease functioning completely from December 4.
What Sky Live customers need to know about refunds
The company confirmed that all customers who purchased the Sky Live device will receive a full refund covering the value they have paid. This applies whether the device was bought outright for £290 or through a 48-month subscription plan costing £6 per month alongside a Sky Glass subscription.
A Sky representative stated the decision allows them to focus investment on "faster, simpler products, unbeatable content and brilliant service." They expressed pride in the product's ambition but confirmed resources are being redirected elsewhere.
Valuable learnings and future developments
Despite the service closure, Sky emphasised that the Sky Live project provided "valuable learnings" that are informing future product development. The company noted that gaming features proved particularly popular, leading to plans for bringing more gaming content to both Sky Glass and Sky Stream platforms.
No action required from customers
In welcome news for affected subscribers, no action is required to receive the refund. Sky has confirmed the process will be handled automatically, with all eligible customers receiving their money back without needing to make a claim or contact customer service.
