David Wilson Homes Donates £500 to Galloways Sight Loss Charity
£500 Donation to Sight Loss Charity in Preston

In a significant boost for local charitable efforts, David Wilson Homes has generously donated £500 to Galloways, a prominent sight loss charity based in Preston. This financial contribution is set to enhance the charity's extensive range of services designed specifically for blind and partially sighted individuals across Lancashire and Sefton.

Supporting Visual Impairment Services

The donation from David Wilson Homes, which is actively building new homes at Centurion Village in Leyland and Inglewhite Meadow in Longridge, will directly fund Galloways' vital programs. These include personalised sight loss advice appointments, comprehensive low vision assessments, and specialised assistive technology support. Additionally, the funds will help sustain wellbeing initiatives, social activities, and adapted sports sessions, all tailored to meet the unique needs of the visually impaired community.

Charity's Mission and Impact

Kelly Love, Corporate Engagement Lead at Galloways, emphasised the importance of such donations, stating: "Every penny really does count. Despite being 159 years old this year, Galloways is still one of the more hidden local charities, so donations and volunteer support make an enormous difference." She further highlighted that the charity welcomes all forms of support, whether through small weekly donations, volunteering time, or legacy gifts, to continue its mission of helping blind and partially sighted people live confidently and independently.

Founded in 1866, Galloways has built a strong reputation for providing practical help and emotional support to individuals navigating the challenges of visual impairment. Many of its staff members have personal experience with sight loss, ensuring deep understanding and empathy in their work. Supported by 300 dedicated volunteers, Galloways is among the largest sight loss communities in the UK, empowering thousands to lead active and fulfilling lives.

Corporate Commitment to Community

Claire Jarvis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, expressed her delight in supporting Galloways: "We are delighted to support Galloways in its mission to empower people living with sight loss. Local charities like this play such a vital role in helping individuals lead independent and fulfilling lives, and it's a privilege to contribute to the charity's work in the community." She added that the company always strives to support charities, community groups, and people in the areas where they build new homes, recognising the vital support Galloways offers throughout Lancashire and Merseyside.

Galloways currently supports approximately 4,000 people across Lancashire and Sefton, with the charity emphasising that every contribution, regardless of size, is crucial for maintaining and expanding its services. This is particularly important in today's challenging economic climate, where funding can be scarce for essential community organisations.
