Two Dachshund Puppies Die After Being Dumped in Rain-Soaked Box on Towpath
Abandoned Puppies Die After Towpath Dumping

Two of three abandoned Dachshund puppies have tragically died after being callously dumped in a sealed cardboard box on a rain-soaked canal towpath. The third pup is fighting for survival under veterinary care, as an animal charity launches an urgent appeal for information.

A Heartbreaking Discovery in Four Ashes

The incident unfolded on the morning of Monday, December 22, in Four Ashes, near Wolverhampton. A plain brown cardboard box, sealed with tape, was discovered on a towpath. Inside, three tiny Dachshund puppies were found soaked and suffering from exposure to the cold, wet weather.

Tragically, one of the pups had already died at the scene. The two survivors were rushed into the care of Raven's Rescue, a Dudley-based animal charity, which immediately took them for emergency veterinary treatment.

Vixen's Tragic Loss and Comet's Fight

Despite the best efforts of veterinary teams, one of the surviving puppies, a chocolate and tan female named Vixen by the charity, could not be saved. She passed away, leaving just one pup from the litter alive.

The sole survivor, a female now named Comet, was said to be "doing ok" but remained under intensive veterinary care. Raven's Rescue confirmed that the RSPCA is aware of the distressing situation.

Charity and Public Appeal for Information

Raven's Rescue has issued a direct plea to the public for help in tracing the person responsible. The charity is desperate to find out if the puppies' mother or any other littermates are also at risk.

In a social media post, the charity asked: "Did you see anyone with a plain brown cardboard box walking the towpath? Do you know anyone trying to get rid of pups matching their description?" They urged anyone with information to contact them directly via their Facebook page, Ravens Rescue UK, or by email at ravensrescueuk@gmail.com.

The charity's post was flooded with comments from horrified animal lovers, many expressing their disgust at the act and offering donations towards Comet's care and the charity's work.

One commenter wrote: "The poor babies, how can people be so evil and cruel? There is always help out there if they are struggling, no excuse to just abandon these helpless souls."

Another stated: "There are options, so, so many options before dumping a box full of puppies," highlighting the numerous animal welfare charities and rescues available to assist owners in crisis.

The charity continues to monitor Comet's progress closely while investigating the circumstances of this cruel abandonment.
