Ashby Santa Fun Run Generates Over £10,000 for Charitable Causes

The 2025 Ashby Santa Fun Run & Walk has successfully raised more than £10,000 for charity, marking another triumphant year for this festive community event. Held on Sunday, December 7, the 3km fun run and walk attracted nearly 700 participants dressed as Santas, elves, snowmen, and other Christmas-themed characters, including dogs, transforming Ashby into a vibrant holiday spectacle.

Charitable Donations and Beneficiaries

Organised by the Ashby Castle Rotary Club, the event selected two primary children's charities to receive the bulk of the proceeds. Steps Conductive Education Centre, based in Shepshed, and Wishes 4 Kids, from Leicester, each received cheques for £3,500. Additionally, four other local causes—Measham Youth Club, Me&Dee, Inspire Youth Collective, and Ashby Youth for Christ—were each awarded £250. The remaining funds will be utilised by the Rotary Club over the next year to support further charitable initiatives.

Impact and Gratitude from Charities

Gary Lowe, charity manager at Wishes 4 Kids, expressed profound gratitude, stating that the donation will help fulfill dreams for many ill children and their families. Janet Russell and Natalie Roberts from Steps highlighted how the £3,500 will enhance their outdoor area, creating a safe and accessible space for learning and play, which is crucial for building confidence and wellbeing in the children they support.

Event Details and Future Plans

Event director Kevin Sanders explained that the charities were chosen due to their focus on children, longstanding relationships, and the exceptional work they perform without government funding. The Ashby Santa Fun Run & Walk, now a staple of the local holiday calendar alongside the Christmas Fair and Market Street entertainment, will return for its 12th edition on Sunday, December 6, 2026.
