A determined seven-year-old boy from Tewkesbury is preparing to walk every day in December to raise money for the hospice that cared for his grandmother before she died.
Inspired by His Granny's Care
William Peoples was just five years old when his granny, Ann, was in the advanced stages of womb cancer. After receiving hospital treatment, Ann was supported by the dedicated Sue Ryder Nurses at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.
William's mother, Faye, shared how much this support meant to the family. "The Sue Ryder Nurses treated my mum with dignity, kindness and compassion, and supported us as a family through such a difficult time," she said.
A Second Year of Fundraising Success
Inspired by the care shown to his granny, William first took on the December Daily Dash challenge last year. He walked at least one kilometre every day throughout the month, proudly wearing his challenge beanie.
"Lots of people in the community saw him out walking every day," Faye added. "He would proudly tell them he was walking for Sue Ryder because they helped his granny."
His incredible efforts raised more than £600 for the charity, with support from his family, friends, and the local community. William enjoyed the challenge so much that he is now gearing up to do it all again for a second year.
What is the December Daily Dash?
The December Daily Dash is a fundraising challenge where participants can choose to walk, jog, or run 1k, 3k, or 5k every day throughout December. It's a chance to boost your wellbeing while raising much-needed funds for Sue Ryder.
The money William raises will help Sue Ryder provide expert palliative and bereavement support, ensuring that no one has to face death or grief alone.
William is looking forward to lacing up his trainers once more, taking on the challenge in memory of his beloved granny and saying thank you for the care she received.
