Charity Calls for Brave Brummies to Take on 98ft Abseil Challenge in Digbeth

A West Midlands charity is issuing a rallying cry for Brummies to participate in a thrilling abseil challenge, aiming to raise crucial funds for women and children impacted by domestic abuse and sexual violence. The Haven Wolverhampton, a Women's Aid organisation, is organising the event at the iconic Custard Factory in Digbeth on March 21, where participants will descend 98ft in a show of solidarity and support.

Supporting Recovery Through Courageous Acts

Funds generated from this ambitious fundraiser will directly benefit The Haven's support services, which are dedicated to helping victims and survivors recover from trauma. Chloe Richards, the Fundraising Lead at The Haven Wolverhampton, who is personally taking part in the abseil, emphasised the symbolic nature of the challenge.

"The women we support are learning to trust again and lean into our assistance every day," Richards stated. "Similarly, we ask our abseilers to trust the ropes as they begin their journey back to solid ground. Each registration helps women take that first step toward getting help—whether it's answering a helpline, preparing a safe room, or believing a voice."

More Than an Adrenaline Rush

Richards highlighted that the 'Haven Heights' abseil transcends mere excitement. "It's about doing something brave to demonstrate solidarity with those who have endured abuse," she explained. "If you want to experience something unforgettable in Birmingham at the Custard Factory while making a significant impact in our region, join me and sign up today!"

Urgent Need for Support

The fundraising initiative comes as The Haven revealed stark statistics from 2024-25: the Wolverhampton branch received referrals for 1,800 women and children, and its triage and advice team answered an average of 2,659 helpline calls monthly. These figures underscore the critical demand for the charity's services across the West Midlands.
