Construction professionals from across the North West have delivered a significant boost to a vital Cheshire charity, assembling festive gift packs for families affected by domestic abuse.
Building a Better Christmas for Vulnerable Families
In a powerful display of community spirit, staff from seven major construction firms, alongside the North West Construction Hub, united for the 'Spread a little Christmas magic' initiative. They gathered at the Crewe headquarters of MyCWA (formerly Cheshire Without Abuse) to prepare presents for distribution on Christmas Eve.
The companies involved were:
- MC Construction
- Equans
- Kier
- Greenmount Projects
- Russell WBHO
- Jamieson Contracting
- Vinci Building
Eleven volunteers worked to create pamper packs, Christmas Eve bags, and toy displays. This thoughtful setup allowed parents supported by the charity to personally select gifts for their children, preserving dignity and choice during a difficult period.
Essential Support During a Challenging Season
The donated items were carefully chosen to provide comfort and joy, ranging from selection boxes and toys to practical essentials like hot water bottles, pyjamas, slippers, blankets, and toiletry sets.
This effort supports the critical work of MyCWA, which offers a 24/7 helpline, crisis accommodation, advice clinics, recovery programmes, and behaviour change courses. Last year alone, the organisation supported more than 4,000 adults and children across Cheshire.
Wendy Heaton from the North West Construction Hub explained the motivation behind the project: "We wanted to support a local charity and make Christmas brighter for people who need it most. It’s heartwarming to see our collaboration spread a little festive magic to families facing tough times."
Gifts That Offer More Than Just Presents
Michaela East, community fundraiser at MyCWA, highlighted the profound impact of such generosity. "Christmas can be a particularly challenging time, with financial pressures and family stress increasing the risk of domestic abuse," she said. "The gifts provided through this appeal don't just bring joy - they offer warmth, reassurance, and hope to families who need it most. The support from the North West Construction Hub and its partners truly makes a difference."
This initiative underscores how corporate-charity partnerships can provide tangible, meaningful support to vulnerable members of the community, especially during the heightened pressures of the festive season.
