Rachael Rogers, a grandmother on holiday at the Mediterranean Palace in Tenerife, took matters into her own hands against sunbed hoggers who reserved loungers all week without using them. She removed towels from unattended sunbeds and shared the act on TikTok, garnering over 61,000 likes.
What Happened at the Pool
Rogers told Good Morning Britain that she rarely lounges by the pool, preferring other activities. However, when she tried to settle with a book in the shade at 4pm, she found rows of towels on empty loungers. Frustrated, she decided to leave a "little surprise" for the absent owners.
In a TikTok video, she declared: "All week the same people would bag their spot by the pool. So today we decided to give them a little surprise and take them. All you at the Mediterranean Palace in Tenerife, yes, it was us." She wore a vibrant pink dress and filmed herself clearing towels from sunbeds left unattended for hours, captioning the clip: "Leaving the dirty pool hoggers a little surprise when they come back down."
Tourist Frustration and Support
Many holidaymakers place towels on sunbeds at dawn to secure spots but then leave for the day, sparking anger among others. One commenter said: "What annoys me is they don't even come down to the pool when it opens, they come at 2pm or something, so those sunbeds are unusable all day for others." Another praised Rogers as a "legend" for doing what hotel staff should do. A third added: "It's first come, first served, not first reserve, first gets, so well done."
Mixed Reactions
Not everyone supported her actions. Some branded her "petty" and noted there were "plenty of other beds" available. One person seethed: "What a way to spend your holiday." Rogers showed no concern about being identified, boldly sharing the footage.
