Clan Cancer Support Launches Major Volunteer Recruitment Drive in Aberdeen
Clan Cancer Support, a leading north-east cancer charity, has issued an urgent appeal for volunteers across Aberdeen to assist local individuals and families affected by cancer. The organisation is actively seeking compassionate individuals to join its vital listening and support service, offering a confidential space for people to discuss their cancer journey.
Diverse Volunteer Opportunities Available
The charity is recruiting for two primary roles. Firstly, volunteers are needed for its emotional support service, which provides crucial listening assistance to those navigating a cancer diagnosis. Secondly, Clan is looking for individuals with retail or customer service experience to help operate its charity shops in Rosemount and Ballater, open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
All prospective volunteers must commit to a minimum of three and a half hours per week. Clan arranges necessary PVG checks for all applicants. While retail experience is preferred for shop roles, comprehensive training is provided by the charity to ensure volunteers are fully equipped for their duties.
Structured Training Programme for Support Volunteers
Successful applicants for the listening and support positions will be invited to attend an intensive two-day training course in Aberdeen. This essential training is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16, preparing volunteers thoroughly before they commence their roles.
Pamela Fenton, Clan's volunteer team leader, emphasised the critical role volunteers play. "Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Clan," she stated. "We currently have some excellent opportunities available in Aberdeen for people to actively support local individuals living with cancer. The benefits of volunteering extend to both the charity and the volunteer – you'll meet new people, develop valuable skills, and gain experiences that can enrich your personal and professional life."
Significant Community Impact Demonstrated
Clan provides comprehensive emotional and physical support to people of all ages affected by cancer. In the past year alone, the charity delivered 1,175 drop-in appointments across Aberdeen and welcomed 1,035 new clients, highlighting the substantial demand for its services.
Pamela Fenton added, "We are eternally grateful to every volunteer who dedicates their time to Clan. Their commitment enables us to deliver first-class support services to local people and families impacted by cancer, making a genuine difference within our community."
The volunteer recruitment drive represents a significant opportunity for Aberdeen residents to contribute meaningfully to cancer support services while gaining valuable personal and professional experience.
