An Amazon employee from Leicestershire is preparing for the challenge of a lifetime, aiming to conquer Africa's highest mountain to support people affected by cancer.
A Personal Mission Driving a Mammoth Challenge
Zoltán Antal, who has worked at Amazon’s Coalville fulfilment centre since it opened in 2017, will be embarking on a multi-day ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in 2027. His goal is to raise vital funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that provides specialist care, information, and financial support.
For Zoltán, the motivation is deeply personal. He explained his powerful reasons for taking on the 'Trek Kilimanjaro' event, which is graded as tough and involves climbing to the summit of Uhuru Peak.
Channeling Hardship into Hope and Resilience
"I’ve lost two of my uncles to cancer - one to bone cancer and the other to prostate cancer - and my father-in-law has been bravely battling multiple myeloma blood cancer for six years," Zoltán shared.
He stated that doing this for family members who cannot has made him stronger and more determined. "It has reminded me how resilience and hope can grow from hardship, and I want to channel that strength into doing something meaningful for others," he added.
Zoltán is no stranger to charity feats, having previously completed several Macmillan marathons and being involved in community projects in his home village of Repton.
Overwhelming Support from Colleagues and Community
The Amazon worker has been heartened by the response since announcing his ambitious plans. "I never thought I would receive so much support and encouragement from my colleagues and community," he said.
Paul Roberts, general manager at Amazon in Coalville, expressed immense pride in Zoltán's efforts. "We are all so proud of Zoltán for his efforts to help such a worthy cause," Roberts said. "His determination to represent both Amazon and Macmillan Cancer Support on this personal journey to raise vital funds and awareness for people living with cancer is nothing short of amazing. The team at Amazon in Coalville is supporting him every step of the way."
To prepare for the climb and maximise his fundraising, Zoltán will also be organising local charity events within the wider Coalville community. The trek itself will be fully supported by UK mountain leaders, medics, and a local Tanzanian crew.
