Coventry Charity Feed the Hungry Seeks Business Partners for Global Impact
Coventry Charity Seeks Business Partners for Global Impact

A Coventry-based charity is putting the city on the global map as a hub of compassion and care, and it is calling on more businesses to join its mission. Feed the Hungry UK, operating from the Halo Centre in Binley, is widely known as Coventry Foodbank, distributing thousands of food parcels annually to local residents. However, like many small and medium-sized enterprises, the charity has diversified and modernised to meet the challenges of the cost-of-living crisis and expand its support.

Beyond Food Banks

In addition to running food banks, Feed the Hungry UK supports community pantries where people can select a variety of items for a small contribution. The charity has also extended its services beyond food provision, offering essentials such as toilet paper and toiletries. Furthermore, it has developed an innovative AI system that connects charities and service providers across the city, ensuring a comprehensive range of support—from mental health services to employability programmes—is available to those in need.

Global Reach

On the international stage, the charity is involved in projects in Bolivia, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Nepal, Romania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. These initiatives provide food, support schooling, improve access to clean water, and foster community development, helping people become more self-sufficient and reducing dependence on food handouts.

Sandra Godley OBE, president of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, visited the Halo Centre and was impressed by the charity's local and global impact. She said: "It is incredible to see how much amazing work is taking place from this location in Binley. They are changing people’s lives in the city and around the world through compassion and entrepreneurialism. I saw hundreds of food parcels ready for delivery in Coventry, and I also picked up a box that weighed just a few kilograms but could feed a child in Africa for a whole school year! Those boxes are filled with pre-prepared meals packed right here in our city."

Godley also highlighted a partnership with major sports and clothing brands and GAiN (Global Aid International Network), which recovers items destined for waste and redirects them to countries like Bulgaria and Ukraine, providing essential clothing. She emphasised the need for more business support, noting that such work relies on collaboration between corporate and charity sectors to create a lasting legacy.

How Businesses Can Help

Companies are encouraged to 'journey' with the organisation rather than simply donate. This can involve working with Feed the Hungry as part of their CSR and ESG programmes, donating excess stock, holding away days, or supporting the packing of food parcels. The charity also offers a professional kitchen for hire. Feed the Hungry UK is now accredited by the UN Compact Network UK, which promotes responsible corporate citizenship to address globalisation challenges.

Gavin Kibble MBE, CEO of Feed the Hungry UK, said: "Of course, any donations are welcome because times are tight and we need all the support we can get. But we really want to partner with corporates. We’d say, come and see the work we’re doing and how we’re changing lives and then journey with us. Don’t make CSR and ESG a tickbox exercise—really make a difference for people who need it."
