Derby 10K Runners Raise £13,000+ for Treetops Hospice

Derby 10K Event Generates Over £13,000 for Treetops Hospice Through Community Spirit

In a remarkable display of community solidarity, more than 50 runners of diverse ages and abilities have successfully raised over £13,000 for Treetops Hospice. This significant sum was collected during the Derby County Community Trust's (DCCT) flagship Derby 10K event, which stands as one of the city's most beloved annual gatherings.

A Fast and Flat Route Through Pride Park Attracts Thousands

The Derby 10K is renowned for its fast, flat course that winds through Pride Park, drawing thousands of participants each year. This edition saw enthusiastic teams including the Bear Team, the Mudders, the Sweeties, Pride of Dom, the Sole Mates, and corporate groups from Capital One and Certiero, all united in their support for the hospice.

Lee Francis, a member of the Mudders team, shared his heartfelt motivation: "This was my second Derby 10K raising money for Treetops, a charity that means a great deal to my family. My great‑grandma Lottie was cared for by Treetops before she passed away, and those memories remind me just how much kindness and dignity the hospice gives to families during incredibly difficult times."

He added, "The atmosphere on the day was brilliant, especially the support around Pride Park. Finishing at just over 50 minutes felt like a real achievement, and knowing we’d raised nearly £400 for such an important local charity made it even more special."

Corporate Contributions and Personal Stories Amplify Fundraising Impact

Certiero directors Stuart Flint and Daniel Evans took on the 10K challenge, raising over £500 collectively. The company matched this amount, bringing their total contribution to more than £1,000. Stuart Flint explained, "I took up running last year and wanted a challenge that also supported a charity close to home and aligned with our values."

He continued, "We’d heard of Treetops, but it was only when we started fundraising that we realised just how many people we knew that had been personally supported and impacted by the hospice. We were incredibly proud to wear our colourful Treetops shirts on the day, they really stood out and the support and encouragement from the charity throughout was absolutely fantastic."

Funds to Support Vital End‑of‑Life Care and Bereavement Services

All funds raised from this event will enable Treetops Hospice to continue providing essential end‑of‑life care and bereavement support for families across southern and central Derbyshire. The hospice's impact is further highlighted by its selection as Charity of the Year for two additional upcoming Derbyshire running events: the Wilne 10k in September and the Derby 10 Mile in November.

This initiative underscores the powerful role of community events in supporting local charities, with participants not only achieving personal fitness goals but also making a tangible difference in the lives of those facing challenging times.
