Family's 15-Year Christmas Tree Collection Tradition Continues for East Cheshire Hospice
Family's 15-Year Tree Collection for East Cheshire Hospice

A cherished family tradition that has raised funds for East Cheshire Hospice for a decade and a half will continue next month, despite one key member celebrating a milestone birthday abroad.

A Family Legacy of Giving

For the past 15 years, the Lane family from Tytherington have been a constant presence at the hospice's annual Christmas tree collection. The tradition began with father Tim Lane and his younger son, Jordan. When Jordan moved to New York five years ago, Tim's daughter, Dawn, stepped in to help carry on the family's commitment to the cause.

This year, however, Tim will be absent for the first time. He and his wife, Karen, are treating themselves to a sunshine cruise in California to mark his 65th birthday. "For the first time I'm going to have to miss the collection," Tim said, "but I know it'll be in safe hands and I'll be back in 2027."

Carrying the Torch in 2025

Ensuring the family's remarkable streak is unbroken, Dawn and her partner, Darren, will volunteer in Tim's place on January 10 and 11, 2025. They will join teams from Ansa Environmental Services, who provide crucial support by driving the vans and navigating the collection routes across the area.

Tim fondly recalled the routine: "Volunteers from Ansa often drove and knew the locations well, while we hopped in and out of the van picking up trees." He emphasised the personal value of the event, stating, "I spend most of my time on a screen behind a desk at my recruitment company so it's nice to get outdoors and do something physical. It blows away the cobwebs after Christmas."

Supporting an Amazing Cause

Beyond the fresh air and family bonding, the initiative is a major fundraiser and awareness campaign for East Cheshire Hospice. "The collection means the world to our family and is a huge part of the end of our Christmas season," Tim explained. "It raises money and awareness for the Hospice."

He issued a rallying call to the local community: "People should register their tree and support this amazing cause." Residents can register their real tree for collection via the official website, www.echtrees.org.uk. Those with artificial trees are also encouraged to make a direct donation to support the hospice's vital work.

The event is proudly supported by main sponsors AstraZeneca. For any queries, you can contact the organisers by emailing echtrees@echospice.org.uk or calling 01625 708939.
