Wales Air Ambulance Celebrates 25 Years with Firewalk Fundraiser in Swansea
To commemorate a quarter-century of lifesaving service, the Wales Air Ambulance Charity is inviting the public to participate in an unforgettable fundraising event. This March, brave individuals can take part in a firewalk challenge at the Swansea.com Stadium, demonstrating how courage can directly impact and save lives across Wales.
A Unique Challenge for a Vital Cause
Whether you are an adrenaline enthusiast, a dedicated fundraiser, or simply someone seeking to push personal boundaries for a powerful purpose, this event offers a remarkable opportunity. The Wales Air Ambulance Charity has partnered with the Swansea City Foundation to host the Firewalk challenge on Thursday, March 19. All proceeds generated from the event will be equally divided between the Wales Air Ambulance Charity and the charitable arm of Swansea City Football Club, known as the Swansea City AFC Foundation.
Participants will experience the intense heat underfoot, the roar of supportive crowds, and the exhilarating rush of adrenaline as they walk across hot coals. This daring act contributes to keeping the charity's helicopters airborne and supports the foundation's transformative community initiatives.
Milestone Achievements and Community Impact
Since its inaugural flight from Fairwood Airport in Swansea on March 1, 2001, the Wales Air Ambulance has completed over 56,000 critical missions. Dr Sue Barnes, chief executive of Wales Air Ambulance, emphasized the significance of this anniversary, stating, "Our 25th anniversary is a special milestone for our charity, an opportunity to celebrate how far we have come. We are here because of the people of Wales; they help us raise the £13 million needed each year to keep our helicopters in the sky and rapid response vehicles on the road."
She further added, "We hope that the firewalk challenge will not only inspire people but also help raise funds for our charity and the Swansea City AFC Foundation, which does impactful work in communities across Wales. Every pound raised on the night will help save lives and support people through programmes in education, health and wellbeing, youth engagement, and inclusion."
Collaborative Efforts for Greater Good
Emma Jones from the Swansea City AFC Foundation expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, "We’re thrilled to join Wales Air Ambulance for their 25th birthday Fire Walk challenge. Their lifesaving work touches communities across Wales, and bringing the Jack Army together to support them in such a unique way is a win-win for us all."
She continued, "We’re privileged to make a real impact in our community through the work of the Swans Foundation, but no single organisation can meet every need. Partnering with Wales Air Ambulance celebrates both organisations, which was a no-brainer for us. Every brave step is more than a challenge – it directly supports the life-changing and life-saving work of the Swans Foundation and Wales Air Ambulance in communities across Wales."
This event not only highlights the enduring legacy of the Wales Air Ambulance but also underscores the power of community collaboration in addressing vital needs and enhancing public welfare throughout the region.
