Former Burns Patient Seth, 10, Donates Gaming Consoles to Children's Ward

A grateful former burns patient has donated a brand-new PlayStation 5, a Nintendo Switch, and a collection of games to Broomfield Hospital's Children's Burns ward, inspired by the amazing care he received during his own treatment.

Inspired by Personal Recovery Experience

Seth Petterson, aged 10 from Norfolk, suffered severe burns to both feet and underwent skin graft treatment under the specialist care of the burns team. He spent five nights on the ward, followed by several outpatient appointments.

His father, Adam, explained: "Seth was looked after amazingly by the team on the ward, and what was a horrific situation was made considerably better by the care and support he received. While on the ward, Seth had access to an Xbox and television, which made a big difference."

"The staff on the ward are incredible, so much so that on Seth's last visit for physio he asked if he could stay one more night, as he enjoyed the attention and laughter they all provided."

Fundraising Success for Young Patients

Inspired by the games console provided during his recovery, Seth decided he wanted to help other young patients. With the support of family, friends, and colleagues, he and his parents raised £1,000, allowing them to purchase the new consoles and games for the ward.

Tanya Bradd, Senior Sister of the Children's Burns ward, expressed her gratitude: "Seth's generosity is truly heart-warming. The consoles he has donated will make a huge difference to children on our ward. Play and distraction are vital parts of recovery, and Seth's gifts will bring comfort, joy, and a sense of normality to so many young patients."

Charity Support and Community Impact

The donation was facilitated through Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, which proudly supports incredible gestures like Seth's, helping enhance patient experiences across Basildon, Broomfield, and Southend hospitals.

This heartwarming story demonstrates how personal experiences can inspire meaningful charitable actions that directly benefit hospital patients during challenging recovery periods.
