Girls Aloud Fund New Cancer Researcher in Sarah Harding's Name
Girls Aloud Honour Sarah Harding with Research Milestone

The members of Girls Aloud have shared a poignant and hopeful update on their ongoing mission to honour their late bandmate, Sarah Harding. Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh took to Instagram to announce a significant milestone achieved through their charitable efforts.

A Lasting Legacy for Sarah

Posting a beautiful photograph of Sarah, the quartet revealed that their sustained fundraising for The Christie hospital's pioneering breast cancer research has led to a major development. The Christie Charity has announced it is appointing a new, full-time researcher dedicated to the cause, funded by the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal. This permanent role represents a tangible and lasting outcome from the campaign launched in Sarah's memory.

Progress in Her Name

In their heartfelt social media message, the group reflected on the importance of this achievement, linking it directly to Sarah's own beliefs. "We are thrilled with the progress being made in Sarah’s name into preventing breast cancer in young women," they wrote. They emphasised that Sarah was a firm believer in the power of scientific advancement.

"Sarah believed in the power of progress and so to have a dedicated researcher focusing on this important work is hugely significant," the statement continued. The band framed the new research fellowship as more than just a job; it is "hope, it’s progress, and it’s a promise that her fight will help protect future generations of young women." The post was signed off by all four remaining members with a white love heart emoji.

An Outpouring of Support

The announcement was met with widespread support from fans and celebrities alike. Well-known figures including Alan Carr, Gabby Roslin, and Denise Van Outen were among the thousands who responded with messages of admiration. Many comments focused on how "proud" Sarah would be of this enduring legacy, celebrating the fact that her memory continues to drive meaningful change.

Sarah Harding first publicly revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in August 2020, disclosing that the disease had spread to other parts of her body. Her mother confirmed the devastating news of her passing on 5 September 2021, remembering her daughter not for her battle with the "terrible disease," but as a "bright, shining star." The work of her former bandmates ensures that star continues to light the way for vital research.
