Hope Soap Opens Southbourne Shop, Donates to Food Banks

A local homelessness charity's not-for-profit soap business has moved into its own shop in Southbourne, and every bar of soap sold sends a free bar to local food banks.

Hope Soap Shop Opens

Hope Soap, located at 171 Seamoor Road, stocks a vast range of beautiful handmade soaps, gift sets, candles, and candle holders. As well as helping people off the streets and into safe accommodation, the business is also helping the wider community.

Manager Caroline Connell explained: "Hope Soap has been generating funds for the Hope HTS charity in Bournemouth for the last few years, and this has played a part in helping us to rescue over 2,800 formerly homeless people into safe accommodation and support towards independent living."

"Due to demand, we have stepped up our soap production and expanded our ranges and have now opened a stunning shop where for every bar someone purchases, another is given to individuals and families facing hardship in the local community."

When a customer buys a bar of soap, they are given a soap tin to place into the giving bucket. Caroline said: "It's a small act, making a real difference."

The Giving Bar

This week, Hope Soap was able to give 75 bars of soap to Bournemouth Foodbank, with further donations planned for foodbanks throughout BCP. "We're not just selling soap. We're sharing dignity, care, and hope, and it's wonderful to provide something many take for granted, but so many truly need."

Hope Soap is natural and made from sustainable, non-toxic, and palm-oil-free ingredients, often sourced locally, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

Becca Payne, warehouse manager at Bournemouth Foodbank, commented: "We are thrilled to receive this homemade soap. The bars in tins are especially helpful for the packs we give out to homeless people, or those who don't have adequate washing facilities. It's a fantastic idea and we are very grateful to Hope Soap for their support."

Hope residents, who can currently volunteer to assist in packing products, will be taking part in skills-building through soap-making sessions.

Events and Online Sales

Hope Soap is also hosting public soap-making events, with profits going to Hope HTS. A Cocktail Candle Making Evening will be held on May 1, and Soap Making Workshops will be held on May 14 and 17. Details can be found on Hope HTS's social media platforms and Eventbrite. Products are also available online at the Hope HTS charity website: Buy One Give One | Hope Soap.
