Record-Breaking Christmas Tree Collection Boosts East Cheshire Hospice
The latest Christmas tree collection campaign has delivered outstanding results for East Cheshire Hospice, with the final tally revealing a significant increase in funds raised. This year's initiative generated more than £170,000, marking an impressive rise of £10,000 compared to the previous year's total.
Increased Donations and Volunteer Efforts
The growth in fundraising was primarily driven by a higher average donation per tree, which reached £18. Community support was evident through the involvement of over 200 volunteers who dedicated their time across the collection weekend. These volunteers successfully gathered 7,049 trees from 6,873 households, demonstrating widespread participation from local residents.
The operation was efficiently coordinated using 41 vans, with scheme co-founders Richard Raymond and Pete Chapman once again overseeing the logistics. Thanks to the generous backing of sponsors, every single penny raised goes directly towards supporting hospice care services, ensuring maximum impact for the charity.
Long-Term Impact and Upcoming Events
Since its inception 26 years ago, the Christmas tree collection has accumulated nearly £2.2 million for East Cheshire Hospice, highlighting its enduring success and community value. Looking ahead, the hospice continues to engage supporters with upcoming events, including a general knowledge quiz scheduled for Friday, March 20.
The quiz will take place at Marlborough Primary School starting at 6.45pm, offering participants a chance to test their knowledge while enjoying a fun evening. Co-hosts Paul Morrissey and Mark Watson will present brain teasers to identify the top masterminds in Macclesfield.
This quiz series is a cherished tradition, having raised over £71,700 for the hospice since 2010. The quiz support group organizes three such events each year, with entry priced at £10 per person and teams limited to a maximum of eight players.
