Dedicated staff at a children's hospital ward in West Wales have celebrated a monumental fundraising achievement, collecting a total of £8,888 to benefit their young patients.
A Night of Celebration and Generosity
The impressive sum was raised by the team on Angharad Ward at Bronglais Hospital through a meticulously organised charity dance held in November 2025. Led by paediatric inpatient and outpatient manager Bethan Hughes, the event saw all proceeds pledged directly to support the children's ward.
Guests who attended the special evening were treated to a welcome drink and a two-course meal. The entertainment lineup featured talented local acts, including harpist Sophie Rudge, the Hornettes, and DJ GOC Sounds.
Beyond ticket sales, the fundraising effort was boosted by a raffle and an auction held on the night. Supporters who could not attend were also able to contribute through a dedicated JustGiving page set up for the campaign.
Community Support at the Heart of Success
Bethan Hughes expressed profound gratitude for the widespread community backing that made the event possible. She specifically thanked local businesses across Ceredigion for their contributions, as well as her core team members—Paula, Eleri, Diane, and Rachel—for their hard work in organising the dance.
"Raising money for the ward has always been at the heart of my role," Bethan stated. "I wanted to raise money for the ward I work and manage in, to help make a difference to the patient journey and improve the patient experience for children, young people and their families."
She added, "The Angharad Ward Charity Dance was a huge success. I am very grateful to everyone who came to support and to everyone who contributed... I'm so pleased that the night was successful. The money raised will go a long way to making a difference."
Making a Tangible Difference for Patients
The funds will be managed by Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of the Hywel Dda University Health Board. Paige Denyer, a fundraising support officer for the charity, congratulated Bethan and the team on their "fantastic" achievement.
"Support from local communities enables us to provide services beyond what the NHS can provide in Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion," Denyer explained, highlighting the critical role such donations play. "We are grateful for every donation we receive."
The £8,888 sum will be directly channelled into projects and amenities that enhance the care environment and experience for children and their families on Angharad Ward, ensuring the community's generosity has a lasting impact.
