Human Appeal Mobilizes Emergency Food Response for Lebanese Displaced Families

In response to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, UK-based humanitarian charity Human Appeal has initiated a critical emergency appeal to address severe food insecurity among thousands of displaced civilians in Lebanon. The ongoing regional turmoil has forced over one million people to flee their homes, including an estimated 290,000 children, leading to overcrowded shelters and strained resources.

Targeted Aid Distribution in Saida

The charity's project focuses on Saida, a key hub for internally displaced persons escaping airstrikes. Human Appeal plans to distribute 8,585 hot meals and 601 Ready-to-Eat (RTE) food parcels to displaced families residing in school-based collective shelters. This effort is expected to assist 930 families who have lost their homes and livelihoods due to the conflict.

Zaheer Khan, global director of fundraising at Human Appeal, emphasized the urgency of the situation: "By ensuring access to nutritious and ready-to-consume meals during this critical period, we hope this aid effort will help prevent hunger, and support the health, dignity, and well-being of vulnerable displaced families enduring extremely challenging circumstances."

Comprehensive Needs Assessment and Monitoring

Human Appeal has conducted thorough needs assessments to identify the most vulnerable populations, including children, older persons, and individuals with specific dietary requirements. The aid aims to prevent hunger, reduce malnutrition risks, and bolster physical health among displaced civilians. The charity will continuously monitor and measure the program's effectiveness to ensure objectives are met as the crisis evolves.

The initiative addresses not only immediate food shortages but also poor water sanitation and illness observed in displacement camps. Khan added, "These people's livelihoods have been disrupted – some have lost their homes and are now unable to source food for their families, which is why providing urgently needed aid such as this rapidly throughout impacted areas is at the heart of what we do at Human Appeal."

Human Appeal's mission to save and transform lives through emergency aid and development programs is underscored by this rapid response, highlighting the growing humanitarian crisis in Lebanon and the critical need for international support.
