LOROS Twilight Walk Returns for 16th Year with Glitter and Glow Theme
The much-loved Twilight Walk is back for its sixteenth year, bringing hundreds of supporters together to sparkle for someone special and make the night glow for LOROS Hospice. This annual event continues to be a beacon of hope and community spirit, uniting people in a meaningful cause.
Event Details and Atmosphere
On Saturday, June 20, walkers will set off from De Montfort University for an evening brighter than ever before, brought to life by this year’s Glitter and Glow theme. Kim Blount, events officer at LOROS, expressed enthusiasm about the magical atmosphere that defines the Twilight Walk. She highlighted how incredible it is to see so many people coming together to walk in memory of loved ones or simply to soak up the feel-good atmosphere, describing it as truly meaningful and uplifting.
The organizers have focused on enhancing the experience with an event village lined with entertainment, food and drink, and glitter stations. This setup aims to make everyone feel part of something special before they embark on the 10k route. Participants are encouraged to fully embrace the theme by wearing the official Twilight Walk t-shirt and customizing it with the name of someone special or a message of love. Sparkle, LED accessories, colour, and shimmer are all very much encouraged to add to the festive and heartfelt ambiance.
Personal Stories and Community Impact
Last year, Paris Granger and her dad completed the Twilight Walk in memory of her mum. Paris shared her emotional journey, noting that while she felt upset at the start, she gained strength from the thought of her mum being proud. She described the walk as a mix of emotions but ultimately a warm and supportive experience, likening it to a little family where everyone is there for similar reasons. Paris encouraged anyone unsure about taking part to go for it, emphasizing the sense of community and shared purpose.
Everyone is welcome to participate, from friends and family to groups walking in memory, regardless of whether their loved one was cared for at LOROS. This inclusivity underscores the event's role in fostering unity and support across the community.
Fundraising and Hospice Support
Events like the Twilight Walk are essential for LOROS Hospice, helping it continue providing specialist care for patients and families across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. Recently, LOROS announced that additional NHS funding will allow more inpatient beds to reopen, but the charity still cannot open all 31 beds due to insufficient funding. This highlights the ongoing need for community support and fundraising efforts.
With the support of Dryad as the headline sponsor and together with the local community, the charity hopes to build on the £106,000 raised by Twilight Walkers in 2025. The funds raised are crucial for maintaining and expanding the hospice's services, ensuring that it can meet the growing demands for palliative care in the region.
How to Get Involved
Early bird entry is now open until Tuesday, May 5, offering a £5 saving for those who book early. This incentive encourages prompt registration and helps maximize participation and fundraising potential. The event promises to be a memorable night of solidarity, remembrance, and celebration, all in support of a vital local charity.
By joining the Twilight Walk, participants not only honor their loved ones but also contribute to a cause that makes a real difference in the lives of many. The combination of personal reflection, community bonding, and charitable giving makes this event a standout occasion in Leicester's calendar.
