The Marie Curie Garden Fayre returned to the Cardiff and the Vale Hospice on Bridgeman Road in Penarth, raising more than £4,000 to support terminal illness care. The event, held by popular demand after last year's success, brought together volunteers, visitors, hospice patients, and staff for a day of stalls, games, and live entertainment.
Live Performances and Family Fun
Musicians from Ukulele Nights and The Harmony Brothers performed live at the Windsor Gardens bandstand, entertaining the crowd. Families enjoyed face painting, ice cream from local vendor Daisy & Belle, and children's games such as hook-a-duck. Representatives from Compassionate Penarth were on hand to chat with attendees and offer community guidance.
Fundraising and Hospice Services
The hospice's Garden Café remained open alongside an outdoor barbecue serving hot burgers. The vital funds raised will help Marie Curie continue providing expert hospice care both at the facility and in patients' homes. The charity also operates a free information and support service, offering emotional and financial guidance over the phone and online.
Community Support
Hannah Warner-Holt from Marie Curie said: “We are delighted to have brought so many people together in Penarth at our hospice to raise vital funds for our services. A huge thank you to our volunteers and to all organisations and performers for helping make the day the success it was.” She added: “Almost one in three people still don’t get the support they need at the end of life. By fundraising and hosting events like this, you can help change that and bring Marie Curie’s expert end-of-life care to more people.”
Summer Fundraising Push
The charity relies heavily on public donations and is encouraging residents to launch their own summer fundraisers, such as charity golf days. Hannah added: “Whether you’re a golfing pro, new to the sport or just keen to try something fun, we have everything you need to swing into action and help raise funds for an excellent cause this summer.” Anyone interested can register for a free fundraising pack on the Marie Curie website or contact Hannah Warner-Holt at Hannah.warnerholt@mariecurie.org.uk.
