St Catherine's Hospice Midnight Walk Returns to Horsham Streets in June

The beloved Midnight Walk organized by St Catherine's Hospice is making its triumphant return to the streets of Horsham this June. This flagship event, which has been running since 2008, invites participants to step out under the stars and raise crucial funds for local hospice care. With four distances to choose from – 2, 7, 13, or 17 miles – walkers can tailor their experience to their fitness level and commitment.

Together with the community, participants will embark on an energetic night filled with celebration, reflection, and remembrance. Whether you join solo or with friends, family, or colleagues, it's an unforgettable experience that brings people together for a noble cause. The event typically attracts over 650 walkers and 140 volunteers annually, generating significant funds every year.

Funds Support Vital Palliative Care Services

All proceeds from the Midnight Walk directly benefit St Catherine's Hospice, providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care to individuals living with terminal or life-limiting conditions across West Sussex and East Surrey. This support ensures that patients and their families receive compassionate, comprehensive care during challenging times.

The event will commence at The Bridge Leisure Centre in Broadbridge Heath, where walkers will enjoy an energetic warm-up before setting off. Throughout the route, volunteer marshals will cheer on participants, and regular refreshment stops will be available to keep everyone energized and hydrated.

Opportunities for Remembrance and Reflection

The Midnight Walk also offers poignant opportunities for walkers to honor loved ones. Participants can pin photos and messages on the Memory Wall or light a candle at the Reflective Space in Horsham Park, available on the 7, 13, or 17-mile routes. These elements add a deeply personal touch to the event, fostering a sense of community and shared experience.

This year, Bill Dickie is walking in memory of his wife, Michelle, who was among the first patients cared for in St Catherine's new hospice after its opening in December 2023. Bill shared, "The support Michelle received was above and beyond our expectations. The hospice was absolutely wonderful in every aspect—the care, compassion, and understanding of her needs and mine were truly exceptional."

Bill, who is participating in his third Midnight Walk, added, "The atmosphere on the night is amazing—it's emotional but also magical and inspiring to meet people who have experienced the same loss as you and know how much the hospice has helped their loved ones too. I think Michelle would be proud of me taking part."

Record-Breaking Fundraising and Community Spirit

Emma Butler, Midnight Walk event manager at St Catherine's, expressed excitement about the upcoming event. "We're really looking forward to bringing our community together once again for our much-loved Midnight Walk. There's something truly special about seeing hundreds of people step out under the light of the moon to raise money for local hospice care—with many walking in memory of their loved one."

She highlighted the success of the 2025 event, which raised a record-breaking £167,000—the highest amount ever achieved from a single Midnight Walk. "This is an incredible achievement and has set the bar high for this year, but we're ready to make Midnight Walk 2026 better than ever!" Emma enthused.
