Rugby Rotarians Unite with Musicians for Charitable Musical Afternoon Tea
Rugby Rotarians are set to join forces with local musicians for a special Musical Afternoon Tea event next month, aiming to raise vital funds for charity. The unique gathering, scheduled for March 29, will blend musical entertainment with a delightful foodie theme, all orchestrated by the Rugby Operatic and Musical Society (ROAMS).
Supporting Military Families Through Fisher House
Organized in partnership with The Rotary Club of Rugby and Rugby Masonic Lodge, the proceeds from this afternoon will directly benefit Fisher House. This remarkable organization offers a sanctuary for the families of military patients undergoing treatment at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Fisher Houses, located at military and VA medical centers globally, feature up to 20 suites with private bedrooms and bathrooms, along with shared common areas like kitchens, laundry facilities, dining rooms, and living rooms.
The Fisher House Foundation also runs impactful programs such as Hero Miles, which uses donated flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service personnel, and Hotels For Heroes, utilizing donated hotel points to provide free accommodations near medical centers. Additionally, it manages a grant program that supports other charities and offers scholarship funds for military children, spouses, and children of fallen and disabled veterans.
Community Collaboration and Inspirational Voices
Rotarian and ROAMS member Tricia Davis shared her enthusiasm for the event, stating, "In order to support the Districts Food Themed project in March, we were seeking a fundraising event that also served as our community service initiative. As a long-time member of ROAMS, when the chairman inquired about the society hosting a concert for Rotary, it seemed perfect to merge the concepts of food and music. The Masonic charity exemplifies service to people, which aligns perfectly with Rotary's core values."
The funds raised will also aid other Rotary-supported charities, including Shelterbox, a local women's refuge, and refugee children at Dunchurch Park Hotel. Attendees will have the opportunity to win one of three luxury food and drink hampers during the event, which takes place at Arnold House on Elsee Road in Rugby, running from 2 PM to 5 PM.
Event Details and Ticket Information
Tickets for the Musical Afternoon Tea are priced at £25 each and can be obtained by contacting Tricia at 07949 155302. Stuart Esworthy, chairman of ROAMS and a Mason, added, "Laurence Sheriff Lodge in Rugby is proud to support Fisher House, the 'home away from home for military patients and their families.' Fisher House represents the pinnacle of military medicine in the United Kingdom, ensuring families don't have to travel long distances to be with their loved ones during critical times. We are delighted to partner with Rotary and the Rugby Operatic and Musical Society for this Afternoon Tea, backing this and other worthy causes."
This collaborative effort highlights the power of community in supporting vital services for military families, making it a must-attend event for locals passionate about charity and music.
