East Cheshire Hospice has welcomed a new President, appointing renowned business leader and community champion Clare Hayward MBE DL to the prestigious role.
A New Figurehead for Community Care
Clare Hayward MBE DL takes over the largely ceremonial and ambassadorial position from David Briggs CVO MBE KStJ, who is retiring after a dedicated ten-year tenure. Her primary mission will be to support the Hospice's work, enhancing its visibility and influence throughout the local community.
Clare is no stranger to the Hospice's values, having served as a Vice President for many years before accepting this figurehead appointment. She brings a deeply personal connection to the institution, stating she has "personal experience of the Hospice which means so much to all of us."
A Leader with Deep Local Roots
With more than 30 years of experience working with senior teams across sectors like technology, banking, and manufacturing, Clare's professional credentials are impeccable. She currently sits on the board of United Utilities and was previously the Chair of the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Her commitment to the region is further demonstrated by her co-founding of international leadership consultancies Academee and Cirrus, and her recent service as High Sheriff of Cheshire, a role she held until April. She was awarded an MBE in 2019 for her services as a global leader and to the community.
Looking to the Future
Karyn Johnston, Hospice chief executive, expressed her delight at the appointment, saying, "We are thrilled that Clare has agreed to lead the Hospice during the next stage of our development as we move towards our 40th anniversary in 2028." She added that Clare embodies the Hospice's values and her appointment reflects a lasting dedication to compassionate care.
One of Clare's first official engagements will be the Light Up A Life service at the United Reformed Church in Macclesfield on Sunday, December 7 at 4pm. The event is open to all and no tickets are required.
In other Hospice news, staff members Laura Lamptey and Charlotte Bains are holding a tombola and cake stall at the Treacle Market on Sunday, November 30, as part of their fundraising efforts for a trek to China planned for late next year.
